FromSoftware reveals co-op spin-off Elden Ring: Nightreign
FromSoftware has announced "Elden Ring: Nightreign," a new standalone co-op game set in the Elden Ring universe.
The details:
The game, which was revealed at The Game Awards, will pit up to three players against enemies and bosses, including a Cerberus and dragons, with the goal of surviving a three-day-and-night cycle. According to the accompanying press release, players will need to "split decisions" related to combat and exploration in order to gain power and defeat a boss at the end of the day, with some returning from Elden Ring.
Although the game is designed for co-op play, FromSoftware has confirmed that it can also be played solo, and the gameplay appears to be much more similar to Sekiro, with faster movement, wall jumping, and deflecting attacks. It also seems that it will include some roguelike elements, such as upgrading each of the eight playable characters after each "run," and being played on “changing” maps.
Nightreign is currently set to arrive sometime next year across PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox One and Series X/S.
The announcement follows recent comments by FromSoftware president and Elden Ring director Hidetaki Miyazaki, who stated that a sequel to the 2022 RPG is not in the studio’s plans. However, he did mention that other projects featuring the IP could be on the cards in the future.
