Microsoft is seemingly scrapping its "This is an Xbox" marketing campaign

Microsoft appears to have pulled the plug on its "This is an Xbox" marketing campaign just weeks after the appointment of former AI executive Asha Sharma as Microsoft Gaming’s new CEO.

The details:

  • As spotted by Game Developer, it appears that the original Xbox Wire blog post that launched the controversial marketing campaign has been removed from Microsoft's website. Accessing the URL will now display the message: "We can not find the page you are looking for."
  • According to The Verge, the campaign was reportedly pushed by former Xbox president Sarah Bond, who is said to have offended employees with its messaging suggesting the company would move away from dedicated consoles. The campaign was also criticized by the public, with many players stating that they don’t want to play Xbox games via streaming on other devices and would prefer the company focus on a new system.
  • It appears that Microsoft could be heading back to its original direction for Xbox, with a new console on the way that will be capable of playing PC games. So far, not much has been revealed, but Xbox has already begun discussing the console with developers at GDC.
