Elden Ring 2 is not in FromSoftware's plans, Hidetaka Miyazaki says
FromSoftware head Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed that the studio is not planning to develop a direct sequel to Elden Ring, but clarified that it has not abandoned the IP.
The details:
At the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 Japan Asia (via IGN Japan and Automaton), Miyazaki was asked about future FromSoftware projects. The director stated that, while there are several projects in the works, none of them are a sequel to Elden Ring. "Weβre not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2," he said.
However, Miyazaki stated that the studio was open to returning to the IP "in some form in the future," implying that a spin-off or sequel could enter development in years to come.
The president of FromSoft did not reveal any details about the company's projects in development, but it is said that they are "diverse in terms of genre," with some directed by Miyazaki and the rest by other staff. Earlier this year, job listings hinted at another Armored Core entry, while fans have been calling for a revival of the core Souls series since Dark Souls 3 was released in 2016.
With recent reports of Sony's interest in acquiring FromSoft's parent company Kadokawa, Bloodborne may finally receive a highly anticipated PS5 remaster or even an entire sequel. Bloodborne also appeared at the end of Sony's recent "thank you" video commemorating the 30th anniversary of PlayStation alongside the phrase "it's about persistence,β fueling speculation even further.
