Skate. developer Full Circle announces layoffs
Electronic Arts

Full Circle, the EA-owned studio behind Skate. reboot has announced that it is undergoing an internal restructuring but has confirmed that the game will not be shutting down.

The details:

  • In a new blog post, Full Circle stated that it is “reshaping” in order to “better support skate.’s long-term future.” As a result, “some” job cuts will occur at the studio, though the company has not revealed how many roles have been impacted specifically. “The teammates affected are talented colleagues and friends who helped build the foundation of skate. Their creativity and dedication are deeply ingrained in what players experience today,” the post reads. “This decision is not a reflection of their impact and we’re committed to supporting them through this transition.”
  • Skate., which launched in early access back in September, will continue to receive new content and support from Full Circle going forward, following the roadmap it shared earlier this month. Its next season, Season 3, will introduce new modes, deeper character customization, new tricks, and the ability to travel back to its tutorial island if you’re willing to pay to do so.
  • Despite the reboot getting off to a solid start with high player numbers at launch, the player base has continued to decline since due to a lack of playable content. While many praised the game’s skating mechanics for building upon the foundation that its predecessors put down, criticism was leveled at the decision to make it an online-only free-to-play live service title, which is supported by locking the majority of its cosmetics behind microtransactions.
