Dambuster Studios, the current developer of the Dead Island series, has teased that another entry is in development in a new celebratory post.

The details:

  • In a new post to Steam celebrating the franchise’s 14th anniversary, the studio shared a new piece of artwork featuring Dead Island 2’s Jacob leaving Los Angeles, with an accompanying message that essentially confirms that a new game is in the works. “This isn’t the final cut though,” the message reads. “Dambuster Studios are already carving out what comes next. For now, the details stay under wraps, the outbreak is far from over…”
  • Dead Island 2 was released in 2023 after a lengthy development cycle that involved several studios attempting to tackle the sequel across various iterations, eventually landing in the hands of Dambuster. While it was announced in 2014, the final game would not enter active development at the studio until 2019.
  • Despite its name, Dead Island 2 is actually the third entry in the series, following Dead Island: Riptide, which arrived in 2013, less than two years after the original game. It borrowed the same engine and followed the events of its predecessor, leading fans to view it as a standalone expansion.
