Sucker Punch, the studio behind Ghost of Yōtei, has revealed that it celebrated the delay of Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI, as it meant that the two titles would no longer release within close proximity of each other.

The details:

  • Originally set to release in late 2025, Rockstar announced back in May that GTA 6 had been pushed back to May 26, 2026, in order to further polish the title. While most fans were understanding, publishers across the gaming industry were reportedly glad to see the game be pushed back and given a set release date, as they had held off on announcing their own titles to avoid any potential clashes with GTA.
  • Ghost of Yōtei creative director Nate Fox has shared that Sucker Punch was one of those studios that celebrated the delay in a new interview with MinnMax. When asked if the studio had “popped champagne” at the announcement, Fox confirmed that the team was relieved to hear the news. "We're all still hungover, a multi-month hangover," he said. “That was a great day."
  • Ghost of Yōtei is set to be released on October 2, 2025, and is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima. The title features a new protagonist and takes place in the region surrounding Mount Yōtei hundreds of years after its predecessor. It will launch alongside two limited-edition PlayStation 5 consoles featuring artwork inspired by the game, with its Collector’s Edition including replicas of several in-game items.
