Until Dawn developer Supermassive to lay off 90 employees
Supermassive Games, best known for its narrative titles The Quarry and Until Dawn, has announced that it is "undertaking a reorganisation," which is expected to affect nearly a third of its workforce.
The details:
The studio announced on Monday that it is entering "a period of consultation" in a statement posted to X. "It's no secret that the games industry is currently facing significant challenges, and unfortunately we aren't immune to this," Supermassive said. “After much deliberation and with deep regret, we are therefore undertaking a reorganisation of Supermassive Games. As a result, we are entering into a period of consultation, which we anticipate will result in the loss of some of our colleagues.”
Supermassive did not specify the extent of the layoffs, but Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reports that approximately 90 employees will be let go, with a total of 150 reportedly at risk. The studio currently employs over 300 people as part of the Avalanche Studios Group.
In early February, co-founders Pete and Joe Samuels left the studio, with Pete citing health reasons for his departure after 15 years as its CEO. Former Avalanche Studios CEO and chairman Robert Henrysson stepped into the role at the beginning of the month.
