Until Dawn remake developer Ballistic Moon has shut down

Just over a year and a half after a wave of layoffs, UK-based studio Ballistic Moon has officially closed its doors, according to government documents.

The details:

  • Back in September 2024, ahead of the release of the studio’s remake of PlayStation horror title Until Dawn, it was announced that it was making “significant” job cuts as part of a cost-cutting restructuring. Months later, it was reported that the developer had “effectively closed” due to further unannounced layoffs, leaving just a handful of employees, including the company’s founders.
  • As spotted by Insider Gaming, a Final Gazette (a notice used to confirm that a company has been struck off the UK government’s register) has revealed that the studio is no more, having been dissolved on February 3.
  • The remake of Until Dawn, the hit PS4 horror title originally developed by Supermassive Games, was released in late 2024 to generally positive reviews, though it was criticized for being “unnecessary” with a focus on visual improvements. The project is the only game released by Ballistic Moon, which first opened its doors in 2019.
