Alexander Karpazis, the creative director of Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege, has stated that there are currently no plans for a sequel and that the developer will instead continue to "build up" the existing game.

The details:

  • Speaking at the Siege Invitational 2024 (via PCGamer), Karpazis discussed the possibility of a sequel to the shooter, which was first released in 2015. "The idea of switching engines to something that can be off-the-shelf ready simply doesn't answer the needs of a really competitive and demanding game like Siege," the game's director said. "I'm not going to name names, but you see games that did go through sequels and just completely drop the ball because they have to remake every single thing that they did in that first game."

  • Karpazis went on to explain why a live service model was a better option for Siege, claiming that the game has "one of the best engines in the world" for PvP shooters and that with its "huge engine pipeline team," the title could "last forever."

  • Siege was released nearly a decade ago and continues to receive major content updates in a seasonal format. Despite a rocky start that required a season to fix technical issues in its first year, the game has grown into one of the most popular FPS games on the market and is now substantially different in terms of gameplay compared to its launch.
