Stray is receiving an animated movie adaptation

Annapura Interactive's animation branch, Annapurna Animation, will produce an animated film based on BlueTwelve Studio's hit 2022 cat adventure title.

The details:

• Annapura Animation co-head Robert Baird announced the project during an interview with Entertainment Weekly and stated that the studio is focusing on a "hopepunk" aesthetic, a term coined by the game's original developers. “I love that term, hopepunk,” said Baird. “I think, if we are going to do this adaptation justice, this is going to be the first and greatest hopepunk movie that’s ever been made.”
• The story of the film will be based on the source material, with Baird explaining that the lack of human characters will make production difficult, but will ultimately result in a unique experience for viewers. “This is a game that’s all about what makes us human, and there are no humans in it,” said Baird. “It’s a buddy comedy about a cat and a robot, and there’s such a hilarious dynamic. So, there’s comedy inherent in this, but there’s not one human being in this movie. I think it’s one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular, that you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat.”
• Stray was an instant hit not only with players but also with the media, thanks to its unique decision to put players in the role of a cat in a post-apocalyptic world. While many expected BlueTwelve to include some unrealistic mechanics in the game, it stayed true to the cat theme, with the ability to swipe at objects to knock them over, scratch and sleep for no reason, and leap around the world's detailed environments.
