Sony is shutting down its PlayStation Stars rewards program

Sony has announced that it will discontinue the PlayStation Stars program, which rewards players with PlayStation Store funds, games, and collectibles, later this year.
The details:
In a new blog post, Sony confirmed that the program would no longer accept new members and would be completely discontinued on November 26, 2026. Existing members can continue to redeem points for rewards until July 23, 2025, after which points, levels, and collectibles will no longer be earned.
The company stated that Stars may return in some form in the future, but after "evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to," it decided to end support for the current program. “Since launching the program, we’ve learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends,” wrote PlayStation Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise Grace Chen. “Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.”
Stars launched as a free service in late 2022, allowing players to earn digital collectibles and points through various challenges and store purchases. The points could then be used to purchase additional collectibles or, more commonly, converted into wallet funds for use on the PlayStation Store. Despite Sony's stating that it planned to bring Stars to PlayStation consoles in the future, the program remained locked behind the PlayStation mobile app.
