Respawn Entertainment

Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that it will release layered updates to address the Apex Legends security flaws that allowed hackers to cheat professional players in a recent tournament.

The details:

  • In a new statement posted to X, Respawn confirmed that player accounts were hacked during the recent ALGS North American finals, with top players TSM ImperialHal and DarkZero Genburten receiving aimbot and wall hacks, respectively.

  • The game will now receive "a series of updates," the first of which has already arrived, to improve overall game security for all players. The studio did not share details regarding when the postponed tournament will take place.

  • Respawn has yet to confirm how the hacker gained the ability to inject cheats into players' systems, but it is believed that a Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploit was used to gain access to the systems.
