Remedy Entertainment has revealed that it is disappointed with the underperformance of the launch for FBC: Firebreak, which was also released via subscription services earlier this year.

The details:

  • In its latest financial report, the Finnish studio revealed that, despite the release of FBC: Firebreak in June, which helped boost revenue by 63.5%, the game ultimately "underperformed" commercially, particularly on PC. The developer had hoped that the title would perform well on PC to compensate for the game's low projected console sales due to its release on both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, with Remedy receiving "an initial accrual from subscription service agreements with Sony and Microsoft."
  • CEO Tero Virtala explained that, while the game was played by over a million people in just ten days, it was heavily criticized for a number of issues, resulting in a drop in player count. However, updates have resulted in more positive reviews, and Remedy intends to continue to support the title. "FBC: Firebreak was designed as a game that evolves over time," Virtala said. "Despite the rocky launch, we believe we have a solid game to build on. Players who spent over an hour with the game reviewed the game mostly positively, showing us that the core experience of the game is entertaining."
  • FBC: Firebreak is Remedyโ€™s first-ever multiplayer-focused release and is notably the studioโ€™s first self-published game. The company is also currently developing a sequel to Control as well as remakes of the first two Max Payne games, with both projects progressing well according to the report.
