Scottish artist Fern “4nt1r34l” Hook, whose work was used in Bungie's Marathon alpha build without permission, has now been credited in the officially released game as a visual design consultant.

The details:

  • Back in May 2025, Hook accused Bungie of using her artwork without permission in several visual in-game assets found in the closed alpha test of Marathon. The artist highlighted various instances where textures were directly lifted from the artwork, with some even including her name.
  • Bungie shortly after acknowledged that Hook's claims were accurate and stated that a former staff member was responsible for taking her art. The developer pulled all gameplay footage from its following livestream and conducted a thorough review process to remove any "inappropriately sourced" art from the game.
  • In December, Hook issued a brief statement on X, confirming that both parties had come to a suitable settlement. Months later with the full release of Marathon, fans spotted that Hook has now been credited in the game as a “visual design consultant.” Further details of the settlement are unknown, but it is possible that Hook may have been offered compensation or assisted with some of the game’s design work.
