PUBG has announced that it will no longer support the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game after eight years due to technical limitations.

The details:

  • In a new announcement, the PUBG team confirmed that the game will no longer be playable on last-generation consoles from November 13, with resources being shifted to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. “After the live server maintenance on November 13, PUBG Console will only be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS will no longer be downloadable or playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,” the statement reads. “Your existing account data and purchased items will be securely preserved. You can log in on a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S at any time after the transition and continue playing with your existing account—no separate transfer process required.”
  • The developer explained that due to technical limitations, the shift is required to “ensure a smoother, more seamless experience with future updates,” with players being able to also benefit from its improved performance. The update also plans to bring improved stability on current-generation platforms through memory-related optimizations, reducing crashes.
  • More live service titles are making the transition away from last-generation systems as we move closer to the five-year anniversary of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as older consoles begin to hold back future content. Last week, it was announced that support for the PS4 version of Genshin Impact would be dropped next year, citing similar technical issues regarding upcoming updates.
