Genshin Impact studio MiHoYo has announced that it is dropping support for the PlayStation 4 version of the game next year, citing hardware limitations and issues with the overall size of the game.

The details:

  • In a post to the game’s website, the developer confirmed that it would be “discontinuing support and updates for Genshin Impact on PS4 in future versions” due to “limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size.”
  • The PS4 version of the game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store on September 10, meaning it will only be available to returning players who have added it to their library before. In-game purchases will also still be available until February 25, 2026, with the full shutdown taking place on April 8, 2026 when it will no longer be playable on PS4.
  • Genshin Impact’s PS5 port will be unaffected by the shutdown, with MiHoYo recommending that players transfer their progress to the current generation console.
  • With the Song of the Welkin Moon update, the specifications for mobile devices are also being increased, with the iOS versions no longer guaranteed to function correctly on devices older than the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. If you have an older system, MiHoYo warns that while Genshin may still be playable, there may be issues with its performance.
