PlayStation partner studio Deviation Games has shut down
Deviation Games, which was developing an original IP for PlayStation, has shut down after less than four years of operation.
The details:
Former employees confirmed the closure on LinkedIn, with chief HR and operations officer Kriste Stull writing, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Deviation Games. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our entire team. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and contributions to Deviation; I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked with each and every one of you.”
Senior Character Artist Alec Hunstad also stated on LinkedIn that they were looking for a new position, and "TolerLive" on ResetEra, a verified Senior Lighting Artist at the studio, confirmed that they were also looking for work.
In 2022, studio co-founder and former Call of Duty Zombies director Jason Blundell announced his departure from the developer, and less than a year later, it underwent a wave of layoffs affecting over 80 employees.
Given Sony Interactive Entertainment's recent layoffs, which affected 8% of its workforce, Deviation's IP is likely to have been one of the projects canceled, as the studio previously stated that the deal provided "complete financial security for years and years to come."
