Warner Bros. Games has acquired free-to-play platform fighter Multiversus developer Player First Games. The studio will continue to be led by its co-founders, Tony Huynh and Chris White, who will report to Carlos Barbosa, the VP and studio head of Warner Bros' San Diego.

The details:

  • The financial details of the transaction have not yet been disclosed. However, David Haddad, the president of WB Games, explained the rationale behind the acquisition: "We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games. The bright and creative team at Player First Games enhances our extensive development capabilities."
  • Additionally, Player First co-founder Tony Huynh commented, "Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall. We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be, and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players."
  • Huynh will become "Head of Player First Games," with Chris White assuming the role of "Head of Technology" under Carlos Barbosaโ€™s supervision. MultiVersus was fully released as an Unreal Engine 5-made title on May 28 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The game has received a 7/10 rating on Steam and a 75/100 average on Metacritic.
