Rocket League will remove player-to-player trading in December

Psyonix has announced that it will remove the game's trading system, which allowed players to exchange cosmetic items with one another, causing widespread outrage in the community.

• The developer explains the reasoning behind the removal in a new post, which will take effect on December 5. According to Psyonix, the change will align Rocket League with "Epic's overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items aren't tradable, transferrable, or sellable," enabling the game's vehicles to be implemented in other Epic titles, allowing for "cross-game ownership.”
• Those looking to get rid of in-game items after player-to-player trading is discontinued can still use the trade-in system, which allows players to exchange duplicates and other unwanted items for a higher rarity item. Items obtained through the trading system will not be lost after trading has been removed.
• The trading system was introduced in 2016 and has since become an important part of the game for some members of the community. Any items obtained through post-game drops, the Rocket Pass, and blueprints can be traded alongside a limited number of credits and revealed blueprints, spawning an entire scene of in-game traders similar to those found in Counter-Strike via third-party sites.
• The reaction of the community to the news has been overwhelmingly negative, with players accusing Psyonix and Epic of being greedy, pointing out that the change will likely cause a large portion of the game's community to leave, and others vowing to leave the game despite not being interested in the trading scene to begin with.
