Nintendo has released a new update for Mario Kart World that increases the likelihood of players receiving traditional three-lap races in multiplayer after fans complained about its push towards open-world tracks.

The details:

  • Shortly after Mario Kart World’s launch, players voiced their negative opinions regarding the game's new “intermission races,” which are longer sprint-like tracks designed to connect the game’s courses via the open world without traditional laps. However, it was discovered that they could be avoided entirely in multiplayer by randomizing the track selection, resulting in Nintendo releasing a patch to remove the "Random" option.
  • Players protested against the decision as many wished to play the traditional three-lap courses exclusively. While Nintendo hasn’t fully removed the courses in its latest update, it has upped the chances of playing all three-lap tracks. "Increased the frequency of lap-type courses appearing in the selection when choosing the next course in 'VS Race' and wireless races,” the patch notes read.
  • The 1.2.0 update also comes with a number of other fixes and changes, such as being able to spectate different players in Knockout Tour and Balloon Battle, view replays of Time Trial ghost data, and several balancing changes for items.
