A new report claims that Nintendo’s Switch successor may include Joy-Con controllers that connect to the system magnetically.

The details:

  • A report from Spanish gaming site Vandal claims that peripheral manufacturers have shared details of the controllers, stating that they will magnetically connect to the console, replacing the current rail system used on the Switch. The controllers will also be larger to accommodate the console’s increased size compared to the Switch.

  • It is unclear whether this will render the current Joy-Cons incompatible with the system, but the Switch Pro controller is said to be fully functional. Manufacturers also believe the system will be backward compatible with Switch games, which matches previous reports of the feature.

  • Nintendo has yet to announce its next console, but reports suggest it will arrive in 2025 after internal delays. The system is rumored to feature a larger screen and DLSS upscaling technology, with tech demos at Gamescom 2023 reportedly demonstrating ray-tracing and high frame rates.
