Nintendo Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console in US history with 4.4 million units sold in 2025, analysts report

Nintendo Switch 2 has cemented its position as the fastest-selling console in US history, closing out 2025 with a total of 4.4 million units sold in the country.

The details:

• As reported by Mat Piscatella of market research firm Circana, the Switch 2 was the best-selling piece of hardware in both unit sales and dollar sales across the US in December 2025 and across the entire year. The console is now the fastest-selling system of all time in the region, leading with a record-breaking 4.4 million sales in the US during its first seven months.
• The best-selling accessory overall in the US was the Switch 2 Pro Controller, which sold at least one million units, while sales of physical software weren’t as strong due to a continued shift towards digital games. For example, copies of Mario Kart World sold in a bundle with the console were digital codes rather than a physical cartridge.
• Unit sales of Switch 2 are currently 35% ahead of PS4 during the same time frame and nearly double those of the original Switch, with Circana's pre-launch forecast of 4.3 million sales having been comfortably surpassed.
