Microsoft has delayed Playground Games’ Fable reboot from its previous fall 2026 window to February 2027, openly acknowledging that it wants the RPG to “have the dedicated moment it deserves” by avoiding competition with Grand Theft Auto 6 and other major releases.

  • In a statement on Xbox’s official X account, the company confirmed that Fable is being moved to February 2027, with a “major new look” still coming at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.
  • Xbox content chief Matt Booty told the Official Xbox Podcast in a new video that Fable is “in great shape” despite the delay. “The team feels really good,” he said. “We’re excited about where the game is. We want to make sure that the game has a window all to its own.”
  • GTA 6 is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, following several delays, with various publishers planning their games around the release, which is expected to be the biggest of all time. Earlier reports also claimed that Playground was planning to push back Fable’s launch due to the lack of updates surrounding its development.
