God of War developer Santa Monica Studio is working on a new IP
An employee at Santa Monica Studio, the Sony-owned God of War developer, appears to have confirmed that the company is working on a brand new IP for the first time in over 20 years.
The details:
As spotted by ResetEra user Angie, the LinkedIn profile of Glauco Longhi, who rejoined the developer in April, states that he has been "looking after the entire character development pipeline on their new IPβ since his return. According to the "Experience" section of the profile, the project has yet to be announced.
Longhi originally joined Sony as a senior character artist on Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4, before moving to Santa Monica Studio in the same role for the critically acclaimed God of War in 2016, where he later became the lead character artist on the gameβs sequel. Since then, the developer has held positions as character and art director for Striking Distance and studio art director for Unknown Worlds before returning to Sony Santa Monica in April 2024.
As expected, little is known about the project at this time, but it marks the studio's first time working as the lead developer on a non-God of War title since its debut game, Kinetica, in 2001. Despite its focus on the God of War franchise, the studio has helped develop a number of PlayStation titles, including Twisted Metal: Black, Journey, and The Order: 1886.
