Future Far Cry games will "more predominantly push multiplayer," Ubisoft CEO confirms
Ubisoft

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed that the publisher intends for future Far Cry games to feature more of a focus on multiplayer aspects than past entries.

The details:

  • Speaking at the New Global Sport Conference in Riyadh (via Game File), Guillemot discussed the future of the beloved FPS series following its move to Ubisoft and Tencent’s new subsidiary. The CEO stated that the company’s plans with the series are "really to bring the multiplayer aspects more predominantly pushed so that it can also be played for a long time by players."
  • Guillemot did not elaborate on what he meant by "multiplayer aspects," but it is worth noting that a 2023 Insider Gaming report claimed that Ubisoft was developing both Far Cry 7 and a multiplayer Far Cry title simultaneously. Little else is known about the unannounced project, except that it will be an extraction shooter set in Alaska and will be built on the proprietary Snowdrop engine used in The Division and XDefiant.
  • Almost every Far Cry game has included some form of multiplayer. Originally, the series only included a PvP mode and map editors, which allowed players to create custom maps using the game's assets. With the release of Far Cry 4, Ubisoft introduced co-op to the game's main campaign, allowing two players to explore the world together, which became a major draw for each subsequent entry.
