Dead Space franchise reportedly "on ice" after remake failed to reach sales targets
Rumors have begun to circulate that the Dead Space series may lay dormant once again after last year’s remake failed to surpass EA’s internal targets.
The details:
Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb claimed this week that EA Motive was planning a remake of Dead Space 2 before it was canceled, which EA quickly denied in a statement to IGN. “We don’t normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story,” an EA spokesperson said.
Bloomberg's Jason Scherier confirmed EA's statement was true, adding that Motive "spent a few months conceiving ideas for a new entry in the series." EA never approved these ideas, and the studio is now focused solely on Battlefield and its own Iron Man title.
Scherier also claimed that EA made the decision to walk away from the Dead Space franchise "as early as last spring," with the publisher reporting that the remake of the first game sold worse than expected. This has put the franchise "on ice," which means there may not be another entry or remake for a while.
