Despite mixed reviews from critics and audiences, A Minecraft Movie has been a massive commercial success, earning $550.6 million in box office revenue since its April 4 release.

The details:

  • As reported by Deadline, after a successful second weekend, the film has now grossed $550.6 million worldwide, with $269.6 million coming from outside of the US. The film's largest international market is the UK ($39.8 million), followed by China ($20.3 million), Germany ($18.9 million), Mexico ($18.7 million), and Australia ($18.5 million).

  • The film also had the biggest opening weekend for a video game adaptation in the US, grossing $157 million. This is more than the Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $146 million in the same time period in 2023, despite the fact that the film performed better internationally and has generated $1.3 billion to date.

  • While the film has been a commercial success, critics have given it mixed reviews, while audiences have generally been more positive. Critics have knocked the film's story, the performances of its star-studded cast, which includes Jack Black and Jason Momoa, and its unusual blend of live-action and animated visuals.

  • Theaters have also begun to ask audiences to avoid participating in the viral "Chicken Jockey" trend, which has resulted in damage and disruption at screenings with viewers throwing food and drinks up in the air during a certain scene.
