Information and screenshots from an upcoming "Mario Kart-like" LEGO racing title have leaked, and the game is reportedly being developed by 2K Games.
The details:
- 2K is collaborating with LEGO to develop a racing game called "LEGO 2K Drive," according to XboxEra's @Shpeshal Nick. The game's release date is unknown, but a reveal is expected soon since the game is reportedly in closed beta. The LEGO Racers series, which was released between 1999 and 2002, allowed players to build and race their own vehicles in a twist on the kart racing genre, so it's not the first time the classic building toy has received a racing game.
- Since the initial report, alleged images of the game, including menus and loading screens, have surfaced online. The game is said to include a PvP multiplayer mode similar to Mario Kart, with two to five minute races, different terrain and transforming vehicles, a variety of offensive and defensive items, and a kart building mode. Although the game has been confirmed as real by Insider Gaming's sources, the legitimacy of this specific information is unknown.
- Following the cancellation of LEGO Disney and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as a number of other Unreal Engine-powered projects, rumors have surfaced that The LEGO Group does not intend to extend its exclusivity agreement with TT Games. According to reports, the turbulent development of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was the breaking point for many of its development team members.
Other recent leaks and rumors:
- The upcoming game Assassin's Creed Red will feature two playable characters: a female shinobi and a male samurai, according to anonymous sources. It's unclear whether the game's gameplay or story will change depending on which character the player chooses, but we do know that the game will be set in feudal Japan and is aiming for a late 2024 release.
- Sony is reportedly working on a PlayStation 5 Pro console that could be released in late 2024, according to insider Tom Henderson. This is said to be a different model than the previously reported update to the original PlayStation 5 and will improve upon the performance of the console.
