Sony and Tencent have resolved their legal dispute over the latter’s upcoming title, Light of Motiram, after it was accused of being a Horizon rip-off earlier this year.

The details:

  • As reported by The Verge, new court documents filed this week reveal that Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent have jointly requested dismissal of the case after reaching a confidential out-of-court settlement. The lawsuit has also been dismissed with prejudice, meaning that it cannot be brought back to court at a later date, and both parties will pay for their own legal fees.
  • With the decision, Light of Motiram has now been pulled from all digital storefronts, including Steam. It’s unknown if the game has been scrapped entirely or if Tencent intends to make major changes to its visuals and gameplay to avoid all similarities to Sony’s Horizon franchise.
  • Sony initially filed the lawsuit in California federal court in July, claiming that Light of Motiram infringed on copyrights and trademarks associated with the Horizon franchise. In the lawsuit, the company argued that the game was so similar to Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West that players could confuse the two IPs, highlighting the striking similarities between the two using screenshots taken from the game’s Steam page.
