Todd Howard has provided a new update on The Elder Scrolls 6, revealing that development on the long-awaited sequel is "progressing really well" and that the majority of Bethesda is currently focused on the project.

The details:

  • Speaking to Game Informer, Howard confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 remains Bethesda's priority, with most of the studio working on the Skyrim successor. However, he admitted that the development process is moving slower than the team would like, stating, "We all wish it went a little bit faster—or a lot faster—but it's a process that we want to get right."
  • Howard explained that Bethesda's development approach involves long pre-production phases to ensure quality outcomes, and the studio regularly overlaps work on multiple projects simultaneously to maintain momentum across its portfolio.
  • The Elder Scrolls 6 was officially announced at E3 2018 with only a brief teaser trailer, and despite more than seven years passing since that announcement, Bethesda has not shown any substantial gameplay footage or provided a release window for the game. Earlier this year, Howard said that the project was still far away, meaning that fans will likely need to wait a few more years to get their hands on the title.
