Bungie has announced that Marathon, its previously delayed extraction shooter, will launch in March 2026 with a price tag more in line with AA titles.

The details:

  • As confirmed in a new blog post alongside a “VidDoc” featuring 20 minutes of new gameplay, the FPS will retail for $39.99/€39.99/£34.99, with additional regional pricing coming closer to its release next year. Bungie has stated that purchasing the game will provide full access to the base release and all future free updates, and that its “Rewards Passes” will not expire, unlike similar seasonal battle passes found in other live service titles.
  • Originally set to launch in September 2025, Marathon was indefinitely delayed earlier this year following a controversy over stolen artwork, which has since been addressed. In the time since the delay, Bungie has held closed playtests that implement highly requested changes from players during its original closed alpha, including a solo queue mode, proximity chat, and more varied loot.
  • Marathon is seen as one last chance for Bungie to retain its autonomy under the ownership of Sony, with the company recently confirming that Destiny 2 has continued to perform under expectations. In recent years, the studio has been subject to several layoffs, controversies, and changes in leadership, sparking concerns over its future.
