Ubisoft is acquiring the Amazon Games Montreal team behind the upcoming MOBA March of Giants, a move that will see the original creative director of Rainbow Six Siege return to the French publisher after six years.

The details:

  • Ubisoft announced the acquisition in a new press release, confirming that it has obtained the rights for March of Giants, which began closed alpha testing on PC earlier this year, and its entire development team. The publisher has not revealed any details, such as the cost of the transaction, but confirmed that Amazon will still play a part in the release by offering marketing via Twitch.
  • The acquisition also sees March of Giants' creative director Xavier Marquis’s return to Ubisoft after stepping away from the company in 2019, where he previously led development on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. Production leader Alexandre Parizeau is another returning veteran, having served as the managing director of its Toronto-based studio, with many more March of Giants developers having worked at the publisher.
  • The sale comes just weeks after Amazon made widespread job cuts across the company, massively affecting its game studios. Amazon Games Orange County was hit especially hard by the layoffs, resulting in the cancellation of its Lord of the Rings MMO project and the end of New World’s development, with the MMORPG set to shut down next year.
