Nintendo has announced a new Yoshi platformer is coming to the Switch 2 next year as part of Mario’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The details:

  • Revealed in the latest Nintendo Direct, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will be released in spring 2026 as a Switch 2 exclusive. Much like past titles featuring the beloved dinosaur, it is a 2D platformer with beautiful hand-drawn visuals.
  • The game takes place inside the “mysterious book” that arrives on Yoshi’s island. After checking out its contents and discovering that they can’t see what’s written inside, it prompts the protagonist to jump into the world to learn more about the strange creatures within. “One day, on the island where Yoshi and his friends live, a peculiar talking book named Mr. E suddenly falls from the sky,” the game’s description reads. “This mysterious book’s pages contain information about unusual creatures, so Yoshi decides to jump in and help investigate.”
  • Nintendo also gave fans a solid look at its gameplay, which is more puzzle-focused than other platformers, with Yoshi enlisting the help of his new creature pals to break open rocks, hit targets, float in bubbles, and jet across the ocean.
