Sega has announced that the latest version of its 2006 fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO, will be available on consoles in the near future, following its release on PC earlier this year.

The details:

  • In January, Sega released Virtua Fighter 5 REVO on PC, a remaster of 2021's PS4 exclusive Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, which is itself an updated version of 2012's Final Showdown. REVO brought several modern upgrades to the title, including rollback netcode, 4K support, new textures, support for up to 16-player tournaments, and new online modes.

  • In a recent VF Direct livestream, the publisher confirmed that, in response to fan requests, the game will also be coming to the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. While a release date has yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that it will include cross-play support and "even more content to make this more than a simple port."

  • Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developer of the Like A Dragon series (formerly Yakuza), is currently working on a new entry in the Virtua Fighter franchise, which debuted with the world's first fully 3D arcade fighting game in 1991. Little is known about the title, but a short clip of in-engine footage was shown at Nvidia's CES presentation in January. However, it was noted that the mock-up footage featuring two versions of franchise mascot Akira was "not actual gameplay".
