Deadlock, an upcoming MOBA hero shooter developed by Valve, reached a peak of over 100,000 concurrent players this week despite still being in its closed beta.

The details:

  • Deadlock, which Valve officially announced last week, was an open secret among fans, with thousands of players given invite-only access to the title. Following the announcement, the game has continued to require an invite, though players already in the beta can refer friends to share access. Deadlock currently has no set release date, and Valve has not provided any information about an open beta.

  • According to SteamDB, the unreleased title reached a peak of 106,447 concurrent players on Thursday, August 29, with over 71,000 players still in-game as of writing. This record is likely to be broken over the weekend as more players log in, and it could grow even larger as more users receive invitations, with over 860,000 Steam users wishlisting the game.

  • Deadlock is a 6v6 team-based hero shooter and MOBA hybrid inspired by games like League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm, and Valve's own DotA and Dota 2. So far, reactions to the game have been positive, but Valve has clarified that it is still in active development, with changes planned for its abilities, mechanics, map, and some characters set to be completely redesigned.
