It has been announced that Ubisoft's free-to-play shooter will now target an October release date after its original summer launch window was missed due to the discovery of bugs that caused it to fail console certification tests.

The details:

  • XDefiant executive producer Mark Rubin provided an update on the game's development via the game's official website, stating that an October release appears "likely" as the studio continues to work on the title to pass Microsoft and Sony's console certification tests.
  • According to Rubin, the game's release was prompted by the discovery of compliance bugs rather than problems with the gameplay itself. “Compliance bugs relate to the systems and overall experience that the first parties expect from games on their platform. (e.g., Are trophies being properly tracked, is my friend’s list being properly updated with game status, etc.),” Rubin explained. The results of the tests were returned in mid-August, indicating that it had failed, making a late August launch impossible.
  • The producer also confirmed that Ubisoft San Francisco is now looking to submit an updated version of the game within the next two weeks to potentially release the game by the end of September, though in the unlikely event that a Day 1 patch is required, an October release is almost guaranteed.
