A respected leaker has hinted that the next Nintendo Direct may include an announcement about the classic Nintendo racing franchise F-Zero.
The details:
- Twitter user @Pyoro_X, who has a track record of leaking Nintendo announcements ahead of time, such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder, has hinted at the return of F-Zero in a new tweet, writing, βLet's just say fans of a certain MATLAB function will be happy with the upcoming Direct.β
- If you don't know what MATLAB is, its developer MathWorks describes it as a "programming and numeric computing platform used by millions of engineers and scientists to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models." Although nothing immediately comes to mind for most, some ResetEra users believe it is a direct reference to MATLAB's "fzero" function, which would mark the franchise's return after nearly two decades.
- Rumors of an F-Zero GX remaster first surfaced last year, with Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon developer Next Level Games said to be in charge of development. It was also claimed that the remaster would be released sometime in 2023, though this has seemed less likely as we approach the end of the year.
- Nintendo has not confirmed any plans for an upcoming presentation; however, the company has traditionally held a show in September, and it could be announced at short notice, similar to its Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct a few weeks ago.
More gaming news:
- The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and PAX organizer ReedPop have announced that they will not collaborate on future E3 events, and that E3 2024 will not take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Although the event has not been officially canceled, it appears that the ESA will skip another year and return in 2025 with a new format.
- Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida has stated that Square Enix has no plans to make the MMORPG free to play and will instead continue to expand the game's generous free trial over time. Without a subscription, players can currently play the base game and its first two expansions for free.
