Ubisoft suspends advertising on X over antisemitism claims against the platform
Ubisoft has confirmed that it has pulled its advertising campaigns from X (formerly Twitter), joining a number of other well-known companies in doing so in response to a recent investigation into antisemitism on the platform.
The details:
The publisher confirmed in a statement to Axios' Stephen Totilo that it had paused its current campaign for Assassin's Creed Nexus VR after it had reached over 10 million people. "We did have a campaign running," said a Ubisoft representative. "We paused advertising on X."
The decision is most likely motivated by Media Matters for America's recent investigation of the platform, which claims that posts from major brands are being displayed alongside those promoting antisemitism. Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, has denied the allegations, and the company has filed a lawsuit against Media Matters. As a result, Apple, Disney, and Warner Bros. have all pulled their current advertising campaigns.
Following Elon Musk's takeover of the site, X has had a rocky relationship with outside gaming companies, with Microsoft and later Sony discontinuing the ability to directly share user-created content such as clips directly from their console to the service due to API costs. Musk has since stated that he is investigating the removal of the feature and may find a solution.
