Hyung-tae Kim, the CEO of Stellar Blade developer ShiftUp, has been granted the Presidential Commendation at this year's Korean Content Awards for his contributions to South Korea’s gaming industry.

The details:

  • As reported by Daum (via Automaton), Kim accepted the award at the show last week, which is held by the country’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. The commendation, viewed as one of the most prestigious in South Korea, was given to the game director for his part in boosting the interest surrounding the video game industry in the country with the success of Stellar Blade and Goddess of Victory: Nikke.
  • Stellar Blade, which launched as a timed PS5 exclusive last year, was a huge hit for ShiftUp, selling beyond expectations during its initial release and breaking records when it later arrived on PC. Meanwhile, mobile action RPG Goddess of Victory: Nikke has remained one of the most popular Korean titles, surpassing over $1 billion USD in revenue earlier this year, thanks to collaborations with other major IPs, including Nier and anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion.
  • ShiftUp is currently developing a sequel to Stellar Blade, which is set to arrive before the end of 2027. It’s also working alongside Tencent’s Level Infinite to create Project Spirits, a “subculture” cross-platform game coming to PC, mobile, and consoles.
