Starfield's PS5 port branded "unplayable" due to technical issues, players demand refunds
Bethesda

Bethesda’s recent PlayStation 5 release of Starfield has been met with widespread backlash as players report frequent crashes, freezes, corrupted saves, and more technical issues.

The details:

  • Starfield has finally arrived on PS5 this month following a long period of Xbox and PC exclusivity, but players have reported that its launch week has been dominated by game-breaking technical issues.
  • Several posts on social media and Reddit describe the game as having frequent hard crashes to the home screen, stuttering, and glitches that prevent progress. Despite attempts to find solutions such as playing on different consoles, trying different save files, and swapping between the quality and performance modes in its settings, it appears that the only fix is to wait for Bethesda to release an update addressing the issues.
  • Amid the backlash, multiple players say they have contacted PlayStation support to request refunds through the PS Store, with some reporting that Sony has granted refunds on the basis that the game is unplayable. Although the company’s refund policy is strict compared to that of other storefronts, exceptions have been granted, such as for Cyberpunk 2077, which similarly launched in a rough state.
