Nintendo has announced Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2, a full remake of Nintendo 64 classic Star Fox 64 (known as Lylat Wars in Europe), which will arrive on June 25, 2026.
The details:
As revealed in a surprise Star Fox-focused Nintendo Direct, the new remake will feature new visuals, updated character designs, fully voiced dialogue, new cutscenes, an orchestral soundtrack, and more, while retaining the original’s gameplay.
Alongside the classic Campaign Mode, the remake adds a Challenge Mode with stage-specific objectives. An expanded multiplayer Battle Mode will also be added that supports 4v4 games between Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf across three maps.
Nintendo describes Star Fox as a more “cinematic” take on Star Fox 64, with new story sequences including a playable prologue mission starring Fox’s father James McCloud and expanded mission briefings that share more details of the Star Fox team and Lylat system.
Star Fox will also be compatible with the Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller and feature support for Switch 2 mouse controls.
