Sony to begin selling refurbished PS5 consoles for a reduced price
Sony will begin selling "certified refurbished" PS5 systems through its online storefront, allowing customers to purchase a pre-owned standard PS5 for as little as half the price of the recently announced PS5 Pro.
The details:
As reported by Push Square, the PlayStation Direct website now includes a "Certified Refurbished" section with a selection of PS5 consoles and DualSense controllers. Both consoles and all controllers are currently labeled as "coming soon," but no specific release date has been announced.
A refurbished PS5 with a disc drive will cost $400, while a digital console comes in at $350, saving people $100 over purchasing a brand-new system. According to Sony, the hardware will be "extensively cleaned, tested, and ready for a brand new home," and will include all original PS5 cables, manuals, as well as a 12-month manufacturer's warranty. It also appears from the siteβs images that these consoles will be original model PS5s and not Slim systems.
The announcement comes shortly after the reveal of the PS5 Pro, which has received criticism for its high $700 price. Players quickly discovered that they would also need to purchase a disc drive and vertical stand separately, as Sony has chosen not to include them with the console.
