Sony has announced that another price hike is coming for all PlayStation 5 models in the US due to a “challenging economic environment.”

The details:

  • As announced on Wednesday, brand new PS5 consoles will have their retail prices increased by $50 in the US starting August 21. The increase will affect all physical and digital models of the system, including the PS5 Pro. “Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment,” the company said. “As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”
  • However, Sony has confirmed that the price of any official accessories such as controllers, headsets, and the optional disc drive for Slim and Pro models will not be raised, and that no price increases are coming to other regions.
  • Sony has raised the price of the PS5 several times in various territories since its launch in 2020. Earlier this year, it was announced that a price hike would take place across Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, with its PlayStation Plus service also getting more expensive in Canada.

New recommended retail prices for PS5 consoles in the US:

  • PlayStation 5 (Slim) – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Slim) – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99
