Sony Bend Studio, the developer behind Days Gone, is laying off 30% of its workforce following the cancellation of an unannounced project.

The details:

  • On Wednesday, Bend issued a statement on X confirming that it is laying off an undisclosed number of staff. "Today, we said goodbye to some incredibly talented teammates as we transition to our next project," the post reads. "We're deeply thankful for their contributions as they've shaped who we are, and their impact will always be part of our story. This is a difficult moment for our team, but we hold immense respect for everyone who got us here."

  • Prior to the official statement, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that the cuts had affected 30% of its workforce, or approximately 40 employees. Among the cuts is Senior Animator Robert Morrison, who said that a “bunch of people” were impacted in a post to X.

  • Sony confirmed in a statement to Kotaku that the layoffs are the result of a scrapped live service project that was cancelled earlier this year, along with a number of other internally developed PlayStation titles. “As the team shifts focus to its next project, we’ve made strategic changes to better position the studio for long-term success,” a Sony spokesperson said. “As part of this transition, a workforce reduction has taken place at the studio.”
