Bungie has issued a warning confirming that any players caught cheating in its upcoming extraction shooter Marathon will be permanently banned from the game with “no second chances,” beginning in its upcoming preview weekend.

The details:

  • In a new post on the official Bungie website regarding its new network and security model for Marathon, the studio made it clear that it will take a zero-tolerance stance towards anyone who plans to cheat in the game. "Anyone found to be cheating will be permabanned from playing Marathon forever, no second chances,” the developer wrote.
  • The studio shared that it has implemented several security features to combat cheating, including a new "Fog of War" system that limits how much of the map that the player’s client is aware of in order to counter loot revealers and wall hacks. Bungie has also stated that it has rebuilt its security stack for Marathon, with additional anti-cheat security through the use of BattlEye.
  • The game's dedicated servers will closely monitor players' movement, shooting, inventory, and other actions, highlighting when players are attempting to use cheats like teleporting or unlimited ammo. The studio stated it will be "continuously monitoring the live game and will make frequent updates and investments to our network technologies and security measures," and that its systems work even when players have poor connections.
  • Due to how tight the game’s security is, Bungie will also implement an appeals system to allow players to attempt to reverse any bans in the event that the anti-cheat accidentally flags a legitimate player.
