RedOctane reveals Guitar Hero spiritual successor Stage Tour
RedOctane Games

RedOctane Games, the new iteration of the studio that developed the original Guitar Hero, has unveiled its upcoming rhythm game, Stage Tour.

The details:

  • Last year, a group of veteran developers behind the Guitar Hero and DJ Hero franchises announced that they were forming a new studio under Embracer Group’s “Freemode” subsidiary named RedOctane. The original RedOctane co-developed the first Guitar Hero title alongside Harmonix before it was acquired by Activision, with the franchise being handed over to Neversoft and RedOctane later shutting its doors in 2020.
  • Less than a year later, the new RedOctane has unveiled its debut release, Stage Tour, which is described as a "long-term platform created in conjunction with the community" that will continue to evolve following its release. The title, much like Guitar Hero, offers both single-player and multiplayer modes and can be played with a standard controller or keyboard or by using guitar, drum, and microphone controllers.
  • The game will be available digitally, but RedOctane has confirmed that a “physical” release with a download code and a guitar controller will be available. The studio has also entered a new multi-year partnership with legendary instrument manufacturer Gibson, with the Gibson, Epiphone, and Kramer brands appearing in-game.
  • Stage Tour’s closed alpha is set to begin in late spring or early summer, with sign-ups opening up soon. Players will be able to provide feedback, and RedOctane states that rather than releasing DLC with longer tracklists, it plans to release new updates and in-game events on a regular basis post-launch.
