Nintendo ups forecast as Switch 2's record-breaking sales reach over 10 million
Nintendo

It has been reported that Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved unprecedented sales figures, becoming the biggest console launch in history and substantially outpacing its predecessors and competitors.

The details:

  • In the companyโ€™s latest financial results, it was revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 had sold 10.36 million units by the end of September, marking significantly higher sales than the original Switch (4.7 million), PS4 (7.5 million), and PS5 (7.8 million) during their respective first two quarters on sale, making it the biggest console launch in the history of gaming.
  • As a result, Nintendo raised its forecast for hardware sales during the current business year up from 15 million to 19 million units. It also upped its operating profit forecast by 15% to approximately $2.4 billion as it predicts strong sales throughout the upcoming holiday period.
  • Since its launch back in June, 3.68 million sales, equal to around 35% of units, are from North and South America, with the second-best performing region being Japan with 2.35 million, or 22.6%. Itโ€™s expected that sales will continue to rise in Japan going forward, as the console has been plagued by shortages since its release, prompting Nintendo to ramp up production.
  • The Switch 2โ€™s launch software has also performed well, with Mario Kart World selling another four million units since the last financial update, bringing the total to 9.57 million. Meanwhile, Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Party Jamboree have sold 3.49 million and 1.16 million units, respectively, during the same period.
