It has been reported that Nintendo is cutting back its Switch 2 manufacturing targets for the current quarter, following weaker-than-expected holiday sales in the United States despite the console’s record-breaking launch earlier in the year.

The details:

  • According to Bloomberg, Nintendo now intends to produce around four million Switch 2 consoles this quarter instead of the six million initially planned, with the lower output expected to continue into April.
  • While demand remains strong in Japan, where Switch 2 has experienced stock shortages, sales momentum in the US slowed over the Christmas period and reportedly came in about 35% lower than the original Switch’s first holiday season in 2017.
  • Despite the production cut, Nintendo is still forecasting around 19–20 million Switch 2 units sold for the fiscal year ending March 31, having already cleared roughly 17 million sales and maintained the fastest-selling console launch in the company’s history.
