After the open beta for Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds went live yesterday, its concurrent player count jumped to over 460,000, putting it among the top five most popular games on Steam.

The details:

  • The beta, which began on October 31 and is available to all on Steam until November 4, peaked at 463,798 concurrent players just hours after launch according to SteamDB. This peak is likely to be surpassed over the weekend as more players, particularly those in Europe, will have the opportunity to play, as the launch occurred late at night.

  • As of the time of writing, approximately 390,000 players are in-game, propelling it to fifth place on Steam's most played games list, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, PUBG, and the strange "Banana" clicking game. It has also outperformed major releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which peaked at 306,460 and 70,414 concurrent players, respectively, although those are not free-to-play.

  • So far, the beta has received mostly positive feedback, with Capcom improving accessibility for beginners while maintaining the depth of MH: World. Its customization and visuals have also been praised, and the ability to seek assistance from NPCs rather than real players has significantly improved solo play efficiency. The full game will arrive on February 28, 2025 across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
