Comcept, the game development studio founded by legendary Mega Man producer Keiji Inafune in 2010, has been officially dissolved a decade following the weak launch of platformer Mighty No. 9.

The details:

  • As spotted by Game Biz, a “Notice of Dissolution” was published for the company in Japan's government gazette, Kanpo, on January 29. It’s said that the studio was officially dissolved following a shareholders' resolution on January 13, 2026.
  • Inafune launched Comcept after departing Capcom in 2010, where he had spent over 20 years as the core artist and producer for the Mega Man series. The studio gained widespread attention with its Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9, which broke crowdfunding records at the time but received heavy criticism upon release for perceived quality issues and missed expectations.
  • Beyond Mighty No. 9, Comcept's portfolio included the 2016 Xbox One exclusive ReCore and the ill-fated Kickstarter project Red Ash: The Indelible Legend, which also faced criticism from backers. Inafune would then go on to launch an NFT project in 2022, while former publisher partner LEVEL-5 would go on to shut down and restructure “LEVEL-5 Comcept,” which was an entirely different studio that would later go on to develop FANTASY LIFE i.
